The Elliotts owned much of the area around Saw Mill Run, including the Saw mill. The area was sold to Daniel Elliott on a Virginia land grant, which was honored when the area was made part of the Pennsylvania colony. Daniel's grandaughter was Elizabeth Elliott Snowden. She was part American Indian.

There is a great deal of information on Daniel Elliott most relates to his father-in-law Alexander Lowrey. Daniel Elliott is said to have come from Cumberland County, Pa. Daniel served in the Revolutionary War in the Company of his father-in-law Col. Lowrey. After the war they both worked together as Indian traders. Daniel took over an old British Saw Mill on what is now called Saw Mill Run, about a mile south of the point in Pittsburgh. He also ran a ferry across the Ohio at the mouth of the creek. He held large tracts of land in Allegheny County. The Elliott section of Pittsburgh got its name from this man. His son West Elliott seems to have inherited the Pittsburgh part of his business at his death and John, the elder brother, got the land in Lancaster County. This John Elliott is my direct ancestor. There was a daughter of Daniel Elliott, Mary, she married first James Hamilton then Col. Robert Stewart, who was a lawyer in Pittsburgh.

John Elliott served in the War of 1812, He lived in Lancaster county and died a young man. His daughter Elizabeth Elliott Married John M. Snowden Jr. whose father was [[John M. Snowden]]. John M. Snowden Jr operated the St Clair Rail road and supplied coal to Old Economy Village and other points down river of Pittsburgh. I have pictures of John M. Snowden Jr. and Elizabeth Elliott Snowden.
